HELLO, I'M Jim Workman.
I live in the Triangle area with my wife, son, and small dog "Sandy." I enjoy Triangle's many green spaces, geneolgy research, and I’m an enthusiastic motorcyclist who makes frequent trips to western North Carolina to ride the Blue Ridge Parkway.
My approach to therapy is a culmination of my life's work with people in a variety of settings. My philosophy of therapy grows out of my many years as an interfaith pastoral care giver. I have worked with trauma at Albert Einstein Medical Center (Philadelphia, PA). I am a Veteran with combat experience as a Chaplain during Operation Iraqi Freedom (2002-2004). I have served as a clinical, interfaith, spiritual care provider at Pitt County Memorial Hospital (Greenville, NC), Duke HomeCare and Hospice (Durham, NC), and Rex Hospital (Raleigh, NC). I believe that people are "living human documents" continually under revision.
I have worked with PTSD, cancer diagnoses, grief, end-of-life, depression, bipolar disorder, adult and child ADHD/ADD, adjustment related to stages of the family life cycle (children entering school, "launching children", career transitions), Veterans issues (Moral Injury, post-deployment adjustment), mindfulness based stress reduction, and couple's assessments using the Prepare-Enrich program.
I practice "collaborative therapy." This means that your therapy is about what you feel is important to your growth. My clients often hear me say, "All I want for you is to see you be that healthy, happy, and successful person you want to be." I want to see that become your reality.
