Hello, I am Chantel Washington! My passion for helping individuals heal and cope within a safe environment as they aim to combat challenges stems from my experiences as a School Counselor. My Guidance Counselor was a great mentor that allowed me to see the importance of allowing a space for individuals to cope with the challenges that clouds growth. Working as a School counselor enabled me to understand the importance of walking the journey with our future leaders in order to inspire and empower them to reach optimal wellness. Outside of being an advocate for clients and their families, I am running my heels off being a mom of a toddler, canine and a wife. My family and I love taking walks on trails and just having some quality family time.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPCA). I graduated from Liberty University with a Master of Education in School Counseling and a Master of Professional Counseling. I am a National Certified Counselor while continuing to equip myself with up to date practices that will increase my competence towards helping adolescents and their families. I currently work part-time offering school -based therapy to students in Chatham County Schools. I have conducted groups on social skills, anger management, social media , bullying, and self-esteem. As a Middle School Counselor, I focused on a “Rachel’s Challenge” program that served to combat bullying within the school environment.
I specialize in therapy for children and adolescents who are diagnosed with ADHD, oppositional defiant disorder, Major depressive disorder, anxiety, Post-traumatic stress, self-harm behavior and bullying. I enjoy working with children and their families as they continue to grow and experience transitions in their lives. It can be hard for some individuals to handle the pressures and challenges of school while trying to be academically successful. Teaching young children how to express themselves in a healthy way is an integral part of childhood that paves the way for adulthood.
I demonstrate a warm and fuzzy type relationship. There are many things that influence how children , young adults and families respond to life. My approaches are not a one sized fits all type methodology and are tailored to build a working relationship within a non-judgemental manner. I utilized shared experiences and humor (respectfully) in order to develop a rapport with my clients.
Children & Adolescents- Motivational interviewing, Play therapy, Solution focused and CBT techniques are used to help kids and young adults to make the change they need in their lives. Affirmations are used to build rapport. This approach helps to engage with the most challenging young adults.
Parenting- Parenting brings along many joyful and challenging experiences. We are not given a manual the day we bring our little gems into the world. When our children are faced with obstacles we can feel overwhelmed and sometimes critize our parenting abilities. My goal is to provide parents with evidence based tools that will allow the feeling of empowerment so that they can become an advocate for their child.
I offers in-office and video counseling or Teletherapy (please check with your insurance if teletherapy is covered in the outpatient therapy benefits or you can choose to private pay).
Please note, clients are responsible for calling their insurance to verify insurance benefits for Outpatient Therapy (in-network or out-of-network benefits if Wake Counseling provider is not in-network with your insurance plan). Here are commonly accepted plans by this provider:
BCBS (Out-of-Network for Blue-Local Plans for Duke & WakeMed)
Out-of-Network Insurance: I can provide a “Super Bill” or an Invoice for client to submit to their insurance for reimbursement. Client is responsible for verifying out-of-network benefits with their insurance plan.
Or let a third party like 'Better' handle your out-of-network claims. Better is an app for filing out-of-network health insurance claims. Send Better a photo of your claim and they will handle the rest, including determining your eligibility and following-up with your health insurance company. Download the Better iPhone app or signing up online.
