ABOUT ME

Hi! My name is Daija Edwards. My pronouns are she/her/hers. I am currently licensed in the state of North Carolina as a Marriage and Family Therapist Associate (LMFTA). I hold a master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and a bachelor’s degree in Family and Community Services from East Carolina University. I am a North Carolina native who was born and raised in the eastern part of the state. I value the communities and people surrounding me and I aim to provide useful and beneficial services to all through creating safe spaces. As a minority, I find great importance in acknowledging and appreciating the many different facets that form an individual and/or relationship. I am always striving to strengthen my cultural awareness and competency in efforts to be the best therapist and person I can be.

EXPERTISE

I have worked in a mental health and pediatric clinic working with clients including children, teens, adults, couples, and families from many different backgrounds. My experience includes working with clients dealing with anxiety, depression, behavioral issues, relational distress, self-esteem, family conflict, identity issues, and life transitions. I identify as a trauma-informed therapist and LGBTQ+ ally.

COUNSELING APPROACHES

As a therapist, I believe that you already possess the tools needed to live a life of fulfillment, balance, and desired outcomes. However, sometimes due to a variety of reasons, we can become disempowered, afraid, or confused on how to utilize those tools in their entirety. Being able to recognize that those negative feelings are present is a great first step to tackling any issues you may face.

My approach requires me to encourage clients to reach inside and rediscover those mental and emotional tools while also aiding them in discovering new tools that can help to improve their relationship with themselves and others. For this to take place, I understand and provide space for clients in which they are heard, respected, and empowered to make the desired changes for their life. Taking the first steps toward a more fulfilling life is brave and rewarding. It would be a pleasure and honor to begin that journey with you.

I utilize narrative therapy, solution-focused brief therapy, experiential therapy, and family systems therapy in my therapeutic approach.
