How Does Group Therapy Or Workshops Work?

Group therapy  is lead by one or two facilitators in a private or confidential environment. Size and length of group therapy varies, check with your group facilitator regarding specific questions. Initial screen is completed by the group facilitator to ensure it is going to be a good fit for participants prior to the initial group meeting. During initial meeting, the group facilitator will review the group guidelines and expectations. Most groups are designed to target a specific problem, such as depression, anxiety, panic disorder, social issues or relationship related issues. Groups promote mental health wellness, improving social skills, and learning coping skills, etc. 

Workshops are consist of more participants than a group therapy setting, and are not confidential as it is designed for psyhoeducational purpose only, where participants may not process or share personal experiences. Participants learn about new topics, skills, and strategies. 

Joining a group of strangers may seem intimidating at first, but group therapy process can be very rewarding as it quickly acts like a support network, a sounding board, learning and growing process while you realize you are not alone!
