ABOUT ME

Hello! My name is Emily Savage. I am originally from Asheville, NC, and have just moved to the Raleigh area in 2024! I received my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lenoir-Rhyne University and have been practicing as a therapist since. I have an LCMHCA license from the state of North Carolina.

EXPERTISE

I see clients aged 13 and older, and am skilled and experienced in working with women, men, those beyond the gender binary, adolescents, emerging adults, and the LGBTQ+ population. I have assisted individuals with a wide variety of concerns, including life transitions, depression, anxiety, substance-use disorders, process addictions, stress management, trauma, college and career difficulties, challenges with self-image and self-esteem, and other mood disorders. I have special interests in working with the LGBTQ+ population and survivors of trauma.

COUNSELING APPROACHES

My counseling treatment philosophy is primarily based in Person-Centered and Feminist Therapies. I emphasize empathy, unconditional positive regard, and congruence within my work with clients and incorporate intersectionality into my client conceptualization. I view individuals as inherently good and always striving for positive growth, and believe that to empathically understand an individual, their many social identities must be considered in relation to the person. I believe that human connection and acceptance is the ultimate healing factor, so I prioritize building a genuine, trusting, supportive, and egalitarian counseling relationship with clients.
