ABOUT ME

Hello! My name is Justin Greer (pronouns: he/him/his) and I have a graduate degree in social work from Appalachian State University. I currently hold a provisional license in the State of North Carolina as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I am a North Carolina native and appreciate the beauty of our state. I am a member of the LGBTQIIA+ community, and strongly support diversity and inclusion in my personal life and in my professional life.

Growing up in North Carolina and the prevailing ideas of my hometown, I understand how sexuality, gender and religion intersect in personal and professional roles. I take pride in helping others navigate through difficult times as it relates to their personal and professional development. I am a strong advocate for others, especially for marginalized communities. I believe that everyone has a story, and I am genuinely interested in hearing the story of others. I love animals and I currently have a small farm which I one day hope to expand to include more animals.

EXPERTISE

I have experience working with children, youth and adults in different settings. I started my journey during my bachelors internship in social work interning in a psychiatric hospital treating adults with severe and persistent mental illness while in crisis. After earning my graduate degree in social work, I further refined my skills while earning hours towards licensure in a community mental health (CMH) setting which served underserved and uninsured populations. During my time in community mental health, I gained experience treating children and adults across the lifespan. I then progressed to a higher level service called outpatient plus and worked directly within the school system. I worked with children in elementary, middle and high schools and delivered high quality care in the academic setting. Furthering my experience, I began work in virtual outpatient practices which allowed me to transform my care from an in-person provider to a virtual provider and developed unique delivery methods that continued with virtual care via video and audio. Today, I have a mix of clients who I serve in the office and virtually.

COUNSELING APPROACHES

I brand myself as a fun therapist and the last thing I want is for my clients to experience boredom during the session. While seeing me for services you can expect many elements of therapy including using crafts, art, games, visuals, video, audio, virtual reality and aspects of performance art. I am a strong proponent of being engaged in therapy with the client and like to offer a space that is comfortable and hands-on. I am clinically trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) but use elements from other modalities in my practice (i.e. experiential, play therapy, art techniques, exposure therapy). Justin is also trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing).

Main therapeutic work is focused on overcoming negative thoughts and beliefs, restructuring our perceptions and perspectives while analyzing the history to inform the present and future. I work with my clients to draw extensive connections through their life and how those experiences define and shape who they are today. In sessions you can expect to utilize data and feedback to continue forward progress on the goals that you define and I will be there through the journey as a guide.
