ABOUT ME

Greetings! I’m Lindsay Abshier, a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate (LCMHCA) with a passion for helping others find their path to healing and self-discovery. I am originally from Monroe, LA and I have lived in Raleigh, NC since 2019. In 2013, I received my undergraduate degree from Louisiana Tech University – Go Dawgs! – where I studied Family and Child Studies with a concentration in Family Science. I earned my Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy at the University of Louisiana Monroe in 2018, and have practiced as a therapist for over five years now. When I am not meeting with clients, I love watching sports games, taking my cat, Hamilton aka Hammy, on a hike – yes! He hikes with me!, creating watercolors of traditional Louisiana scenes and spending time with friends at local events in the Triangle.

EXPERTISE

I see clients that range in ages from 6 – 75. I work with individuals, romantic relationships, and families. I am passionate about creating an environment where ALL individuals, regardless of their gender identity, sexual orientation, or expression, feel safe, understood, and valued. My clinical experience has been gained in a variety of settings, including private practice, eating disorder treatment PHP/IOP and general mental health PHP/IOP. I work with a wide range of life struggles, issues and diagnoses including anxiety, depression, trauma, eating disorders, psychosis, OCD, ADHD, Bipolar Disorder, life transitions, marital discord, and family conflict.

COUNSELING APPROACHES

When in the therapy room, my work is rooted in systemic thinking, which allows me to view and conceptualize client struggles with their environment and relationships at the forefront of my mind. From here, I utilize various theoretical approaches, depending on what will best fit the clients needs for treatment. These approaches include Solution Focused Therapy, CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), Narrative Therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy, ACT (Acceptance & Commitment Therapy) and Attachment Theory. I believe in the power of holistic healing and integrate mindfulness practices and strategies into all of my therapy with clients.
