ABOUT ME

My name is Andre Jeter, and I was born and raised in Queens, New York. My career started in law enforcement, where I served as a New York City police officer for eight years. I have been married for 16 years to my wife, Ertha, and we are the proud parents of two teenagers, Jordyn and Ethan.

In 2013, we moved to North Carolina. I am currently in my final year of the Clinical Mental Health Counseling graduate degree program at North Carolina Central University, where I also earned my Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice. In all of my years in law enforcement, I came to see the need for helping people with the challenges they face through a different lens and with different tools, so I decided to pivot my career to work in mental health instead.

In my free time, I enjoy making homemade cheesecakes, working out and doing yoga, spending time with my family, and traveling.

EXPERTISE

My expertise lies in the realm of criminal justice and public safety, which I honed through my eight years of experience as a New York City police officer. This background has provided me with a unique perspective on the challenges faced by individuals and communities. I see the big picture and can blend that experience with my therapy skills to really make a difference in people’s lives.

As I transition into the field of mental health, I am expanding my expertise to include clinical mental health counseling. I am particularly interested in pursuing my LCAS to specialize in addiction counseling, a field that I am deeply passionate about.

I work with all ages, especially clients aged 13 through 70; although, I am also open to working with other ages as well. I have a strong interest in people who are struggling with addictions, trauma, mood and anxiety disorders, and families.

COUNSELING APPROACHES

In my counseling practice, my approach is rooted in understanding the diverse and complex experiences of individuals, especially those impacted by the criminal justice system. I aim to employ a combination of evidence-based practices and empathetic, client-centered therapy. I use CBT, Motivational Interviewing, ACT, psychodynamic, and humanistic modalities. Understanding the importance of cultural competency and the impact of societal factors on mental health, my approach will be holistic, considering all aspects of a client's life in the counseling process.
